The Ministry of Spiritual Direction

The primary focus of spiritual direction is on your relationship with God, rooted in a dedicated life of prayer. God touches the human heart directly and intimately with the love of Christ and through His Holy Spirit. Spiritual direction can help you to:

  • Respond to God’s invitation to a deeper relationship, primarily through prayer, which is the road to union with God.
  • Listen for and discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in your life.
  • Know and love Christ through prayerful meditation on the Scriptures.
  • Grow in virtue and holiness.

The Holy Spirit is at the heart of spiritual direction. Your life of prayer is the primary focus of each meeting — the director listens as you share your experiences of God, and encourages a greater openness to how God may be speaking in your daily life. Meetings are held at St. Paul Church, with remote format as an alternative option. Spiritual direction is not Catholic counseling, Catholic coaching or a Bible study, but those ministries also can help you meet a specific need and grow closer to God.

For more information, or for resources to refresh your prayer life, please contact Alice King at ak.spiritualdirection@gmail.com. Alice currently offers direction to women only, but can assist men with referrals to other spiritual directors in the diocese.

Catholic spiritual direction is faithful to the magisterium of the Catholic Church.
