Today is a day of great joy in the church as Pope Leo has canonized two Saints: Saint Pierre Giorgio and Saint Carlo Acutis. On this day with these two new saints, we are invited to discover the gift of discipleship. Our gospel today is going to point out the cost of discipleship. But we cannot understand the cost of discipleship unless we fully grasp the gift, because the gift is what makes the cost make sense.
And so today we ask the Lord for the grace, inspired by these two young men who both in their own lives embraced the gift of discipleship. In so doing, they were willing to endure the cost. They inspire us as we wish to be faithful to the Lord in our day and in our time.
