In his Letter to the Romans, St. Paul shows how God’s mercy unites people from completely different backgrounds, Jewish converts who saw Jesus as the fulfillment of the covenant and Gentile converts who found hope in a world without it. That shared need for mercy, fully revealed in Christ’s death and resurrection, became the foundation for a new community: the Church.
