Who Are the Captors You Need to Forgive?
Captain Guy Gruters was captured and spent five years as a POW in the "Hanoi Hilton," hunger, isolation, torture, and the screams of fellow prisoners. He admitted he came to a hatred he'd never known, and at one point considered giving up entirely. What changed him was a decision to forgive his captors, at first as a bare act of the will, asking God for the grace, and eventually so completely that he could see them as beloved children of God. In that hell, he found peace, love, and joy. He later said the Christian has the advantage in any war, because he no longer fears death.
